The Ambassador
H.E. Mr. Carlos Mario Foradori
H.E. Mr. Carlos Mario Foradori has served as the Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations Office at Geneva since June 2024, having previously held the same post from 2018 to 2020. Before his reappointment, he served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and G20 Sherpa, playing a central role in Argentina's international diplomatic engagement. Earlier in his career, he served as Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Guatemala, and spent several years as Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Argentina in Washington, D.C.
Within Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Foradori has held several senior positions, including Director of the Department of Federal and Electoral Affairs, Director General of Foreign Trade Strategies, Chief of Cabinet of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, and member of the Cabinet of the Vice Minister. He has also lectured at the University of Salvador and the University of Buenos Aires. He holds a PhD in Political Science and a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Salvador, as well as Master's degrees in Public Administration from Harvard University and International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University. He also earned a postgraduate degree in Negotiation and International Conflict Resolution from Temple University.
History
Argentina is a founding member of the United Nations, having signed the UN Charter on 26 June 1945 and becoming an original member when the Organization was established on 24 October 1945. Throughout its membership, Argentina has played an active role in the UN system, contributing to multilateral diplomacy on international peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, disarmament, and international law. The country has served ten terms as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, most recently in 2013–2014, and has been a longstanding contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations. Argentina also participates actively in Geneva-based institutions, including the Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization, the World Trade Organization, and other specialized agencies.
The Permanent Mission of the Argentine Republic to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Argentina before the UN Office at Geneva and numerous international organizations headquartered in the city. The Mission advances Argentina's positions across a broad range of multilateral issues, including human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, trade, labour, intellectual property, migration, and disarmament. According to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Mission has been headed by H.E. Mr. Carlos Mario Foradori since 26 June 2024, when he presented his credentials as Permanent Representative.
