The Embassies of the ALBA Countries Talk about Literature and Music
October 10th, 2014
News from Berlin - The regional organization ALBA (Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América - Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America) aims at working against poverty and social exclusion. In Berlin, ALBA has a special plan for pursuing this goal that will involve literature and music and will be based on the artistic resources of this region. Therefore, the Embassies of the Republic of Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Venezuela will organize an event called: “Café Literario: Una Noche de Cuentacuentos, Poetas, Cortometrajes y Músicos de Nuestra Región” (Literary Café: A Night of Storytellers, Poets, Shortmovies and Music of our Region), in the Café Sibylle, at Karl-Marx-Alle 72.
The ideological base of ALBA is inspired by Simon Bolívar. Bolívar was a 19th-century South American independence leader born in Caracas who wanted Hispanic Americans to unite as a single “Great Nation”. It was founded by Cuba and Venezuela in 2004 including countries of South America and the Caribbean who share the same visions of social welfare, bartering and mutual economic aid.
The literature evening will be on October 15th at 19.00, and it will be in Spanish. Not only has the heritage of Magic Realism influenced the cultural landscape of this region of the world; but also the Bolivarian hopes to empower their countries have now impact their interrelations.
