From December 2 to 4, 2024, Nairobi, Kenya, hosted the German-African Business Summit (GABS), a biennial event aimed at advancing economic partnerships between Germany and Africa. The summit served as a platform for addressing mutual challenges and exploring opportunities in renewable energy, technology, and infrastructure. Organized by the Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI), the gathering reflected Germany's commitment to fostering sustainable growth across the African continent.

The summit brought together influential leaders, including Dr. Robert Habeck, Germany's Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and Kenya’s President William Ruto, alongside Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Discussions highlighted green hydrogen as a critical area of focus, with plans for Germany to support Africa’s renewable energy transition through investments and technical expertise. In addition, business leaders and policymakers delved into strategies for enhancing trade, digital innovation, and regional economic integration, aiming to align goals for shared prosperity.

By promoting green technologies and sustainable economic strategies, both parties aim to address global challenges such as climate change and energy security. The summit also highlighted Africa's growing role as a hub for renewable energy and innovation, emphasizing the potential for transformative partnerships. The outcomes of GABS 2024 are expected to shape the future of German-African collaboration, strengthening ties in key sectors and fostering a model of cooperation that balances economic development with environmental awareness.
