From 7 to 11 June 2019 in Berlin, with the support of the Werkstatt der Kulturen and the network of carnival activists, an annual festival called the «Carnival of Cultures» will be held, which will serve as a kind of forum for cultural diversity and a catalyst for intercultural exchange.

Carnival has been taking place in Berlin every summer, starting from 1996. Since the capital of Germany is characterized with the rapid growth of various cultural and ethnic communities, the main goal of the carnival is intercultural integration, the reflection of the attractive side of minorities through dance, music, colorful traditions and rituals, as well as the fight against all manifestations of racism and nationalist sentiments. The organizers of the carnival are convinced that in almost twenty years of the existence of this festival the political situation regarding intercultural processes has improved.

The Berlin Carnival of Cultures is a 4-day festival full of concerts, colorful performances, parties, markets with unusual street food and drinks. More than 80 groups and more than 5000 thousand people will take an active part in the organization of this colorful event. Thus, the streets of Berlin turn into artistic grounds for self-expression and manifestation of cultural identity. Every year thousands of tourists come to spend this multicultural weekend and feel the atmosphere of freedom.

The opening of the festival will take place on June 7 at 16:00 pm at Blücherplatz. Everyone can visit the festival and also become its participant, without any financial contributions, the program is open, and the main thematic goals of the festival are diversity and freedom. The third day (Sunday) of the festival is always accompanied by a parade, this year the beginning of the parade will take place at 12:30 am Yorckstraße / Großbeerenstraße advancing through Kreuzberg all the way until Hermannplatz, so everyone can look at the colorful performances and unique costumes of participants.
