Thailand and Germany strengthen Energy Cooperation with new Agreement
Governments of the two countries sign a Joint Declaration of Intent to establish an Energy Dialogue
April 02nd, 2025The Kingdom of Thailand and the Federal Republic of Germany have formalised their commitment to energy cooperation by signing a Joint Declaration of Intent. The agreement, signed in Berlin on 19 March 2025 during the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the transition to a more sustainable energy model.
The signing ceremony was chaired by H.E. Mr Chittipat Tongprasroeth, Ambassador of Thailand to Germany. The document was initialled by H.E. Mr Samerjai Suksumek, Advisor to the Thai Energy Minister, and German State Secretary Udo Philipp, representing the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Following the signing, the two delegations held the first meeting of the Steering Committee to review cooperation to date and identify next steps in the energy sector.
This new framework for dialogue aims to promote a common agenda in seven key areas, including energy transition, energy efficiency and savings, industrial decarbonisation with a focus on green hydrogen, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. It will also encourage the participation of the private sector and civil society, and ensure gender equality in energy policy. According to the website of the Thai Embassy in Berlin, the agreement is a milestone in bilateral relations and underlines the commitment of both countries to sustainability. The initiative is in line with global efforts to address climate change and accelerate the transformation of the energy sector internationally.
