“Talento”: a Celebration of German-Filipino Cooperation and Integration
An art exhibition and musical performances to mark the occasion of 30 years of a Filipino community in Berlin
November 28th, 2016To mark the strength of relations between Germany and the Philippines, and in particular in celebration of 30 years of the existence of a Filipino community in Berlin, a weekend showcased of the artistic talents of Filipinos in Berlin was organised by the Philippine Embassy.
The Filipino Community in Berlin, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy, organized ‘Talento’, showing the work of thirteen visual artists, featured in a two-day exhibit which opened with a reception and concert on 12th November 2016.
The relations between these two countries is extremely cooperative, and the Filipino community is in Berlin is actively seeking to promote cultural events in order to keep alive the spirit of Filipino culture and practices, and share this with people of other nations and cultures. They promote the celebration of several intercultural events, such as the Sto. Nino Feast (Sinulog), Holy Week activities, Flores de Mayo, Santacruzan, Palaro, the Philippine Week, and various Christmas events.
The process of integration is really working: there is openness of spirit to the German culture through study of the culture, language and history. The “Talento” event was designed in an effort to show this cooperation and integration.
During the event there was a concert hosted by Berlin-based musicians, Vincent Valiente, Isa Tabasuares, Jane Narag-Kupke, Paolo Pesigan, Cher Schonfeld, Rosa Castillo, Minet de Asis, Kevin Orteza, Mylah and Jose Mari Rubio.
During the vernissage, guests had the pleasure of attending a concert of popular Filipino music, and it provided a good occasion for First Secretary and Consul, Catherine Rose Torres, to present her latest book, “Mariposa Gang and Other Stories.”
Over a hundred international guests attended the show.
