The Berlin Marathon is held once a year, on the last weekend of September and has been a tradition since 1974.

The events are split over two days, starting with skaters competing on the marathon course on Saturday before the running events. There are also power walkers, hand-bikers, wheelchair riders, and a children's marathon available as part of the marathon weekend. The elite running and wheelchair races are part of the World Marathon Majors, an annual series of top-level races. BMW is the current title sponsor for the race and the organizer is SCC.

This year the marathon was held on the 25th of September and was the 48th edition of the tradition. On the 7th kilometer of the marathon the embassy of Switzerland was standing cheering on the participants as well as offering goods such as caps, snacks, and water.
