Addressing Global Threats to Democracy at the ICD

From July 26 to 28, 2024, the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) in Berlin hosted the World Forum for Democracy and Peace, a major event that brought together global leaders and experts to discuss the pressing threats to democracies around the world. Natalia Gavrilița, the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, was among the esteemed speakers, delivering a powerful speech on the impact of disinformation and manipulation on the development of democracy.
In her address, Gavrilița underscored the efforts of national authorities in combating these serious challenges, emphasizing the need for comprehensive strategies to safeguard democratic institutions. Her remarks were closely aligned with the forum's central theme, highlighting the urgency of protecting democracies from emerging global threats.
The event also featured other prominent figures, including Catherine Ashton, former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (2009-2014) and First Vice-President of the European Commission (2010-2014); Emil Constantinescu, President of Romania from 1996 to 2000; Gjorge Ivanov, President of North Macedonia from 2009 to 2019; as well as members of legislative bodies from Sweden and Estonia.
Held at the ICD, the forum served as a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in defending democratic values in the face of rising global challenges.
