On February 20, 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin welcomed a delegation from the Zoological Organization of Thailand under royal patronage. The delegation, led by Mr. Yossaporn Srisombat, Director-General of the Zoological Organization of Thailand, and Mr. Narongsak Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Zoo, traveled to Germany to study zoo management practices and strengthen international partnerships. The Thai representatives met with key figures from Berlin Zoo, Leipzig Zoo, and the Natural History Museum to discuss conservation strategies, sustainable waste management, and water treatment technologies that could be applied to Thailand’s zoos.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with embassy officials on expanding cooperation between Thai and German zoos. The talks focused on sharing expertise in species conservation, particularly for rare and endangered animals, as well as exchanging technological advancements in zoo operations. This initiative aims to improve animal welfare standards and promote biodiversity conservation efforts between the two countries. Strengthening these international networks will provide Thai zoos with innovative solutions and sustainable practices to enhance their facilities and research programs.

As part of their itinerary, the delegation also visited Berlin Zoo’s pygmy hippopotamus, a popular attraction that has gained widespread attention on social media. The visit symbolized the growing connection between the two nations in wildlife conservation and public engagement. By fostering such collaborations, Thailand’s zoos can benefit from global best practices while contributing to international conservation efforts. The Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin reaffirmed its support for these initiatives, highlighting the importance of global partnerships in preserving biodiversity for future generations.
