Sport Projects Creating Social Change and Integration of Young People World Wide
Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in Partnership with Mercedes Benz Supports Young People Through Sports
February 02nd, 2016Sport, as a tool for creating social change and dialogue, is something that the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation strongly believe in. By supporting projects in over 35 countries, they are working towards making a difference for young people world wide through sport activities. With the assistance of the many Laureus ambassadors, they have provided financial and practical support to more than 150 projects so far. One of their main partners are Mercedes Benz, a company that has been actively supporting sport in various ways for decades. They are promoting the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and are doing so through several campaigns aiming at generating interest in the foundation.
In Germany there are several active projects taking place, both in Berlin and in other cities across the country. One of those is the project ”KICK im Boxring” which provides free boxing classes in different locations all over Berlin with the aims of bringing positive influence on young people from disavdantaged neighburhoods. Another one is ”KICKFORMORE” which takes place in Baden-Württemberg and is a special street football league with the goal of creating intercultural togetherness and willingness for dialogue among the young people living there.
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation was established in 2000 and is a global foundation consisting of national foundations in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Argentina, South Africa and USA. Its main goal is to bring about social change and to contribute to a positive impact on young peoples lives in challenging environments and life situations. The foundation has a strong belief in the ability of sports to unite communities and helping young people towards building higher self-seteem and for a better future. Moreover, it also aims at adressning challenges such as integration, discrimination and drug abuse through the universal language of sport. So far, more than 50 000 young people have been supported through this foundation.
