South African Embassy promotes Women’s Day Celebrations in Berlin
Community Festival Strengthens Cultural Exchange Through Diaspora Heritage

The South African Embassy in Germany is promoting the Open Air Braai & Chill Festival - Women's Day Edition ahead of South Africa's National Women's Day on 9 August 2026. The community event will bring together the South African diaspora and international guests for an afternoon of food, music and shared traditions.
The Open Air Braai & Chill Festival will take place at Beach Neukölln on 9 August and will feature a traditional braai, live music, DJs and an outdoor programme inspired by the country's culinary and musical heritage. According to the organisers, the event aims to create a welcoming space where participants from different cultural backgrounds can connect through shared experiences and celebrate together.
The festival coincides with South Africa's National Women's Day, observed annually on 9 August in remembrance of the historic 1956 Women's March, when approximately 20,000 women protested against apartheid pass laws at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. Since then, the day has become an annual occasion honouring the contribution of South African women through cultural, educational and community events in South Africa and abroad.
For diaspora communities, the festival provides an opportunity to preserve cultural heritage while sharing it with wider audiences. Through food, music and community traditions, the event encourages intercultural dialogue and cultural exchange in Berlin.
