On July 18th 2019, South African Ambassador Phumelele Stone Sizani and his staff have honoured Nelson Mandela’s memory by joining the Bahnhofsmission, preparing and serving food to people in need.

As is tradition during the “International Nelson Mandela Day”, the staff of the South African Embassy in Berlin took part in a charitable initiative with the aim of remembering and honouring Nelson Mandela’s commitment to freedom and equality in South Africa, as well as his genuine stand for human rights. Since July 18th 2009, when the United Nations declared Nelson Mandela´s birthday as “International Day”, this date has become an engagement on social services for many people.

During the event, Ambassador Sizani met the director of the Bahnhofsmission, Wilhelm Nadolny, who showed gratitude for the aid and the money provided by the South African Embassy staff; it was a symbolic sum that, the director said, could ensure food for more than a thousand people.
