Slovak Poetry Night in Berlin
April 23rd, 2014
News from Berlin- The Slovak Institute in Berlin and the Literary Information Centre in Bratislava, in collaboration with the Literaturwerkstatt in Berlin, are bringing an evening cultural program to the stage. The Night of Slovak poetry will focus on contemporary literature that developed in Slovakia after the Velvet revolution in 1989. Three of the most important young women writers Mária Ridzoňová Ferenčuhová , Katarína Kucbelová and Nóra Ružičková have been invited to the event, in order to demonstrate the richness and diversity of contemporary Slovak poetry. The authors will read samples from their work in their original language, with a simultaneous interpretation in German. Afterwards, the audience will be warmly invited to partake in a discussion. The evening will be moderated by prose writer Michal Hvorecký- well known by the German audience.
Additionally, the program will be accompanied by music. The Slovak band Lounge Minute will perform „effective jazz“. This is a combination of a pleasant electronic music with live elements- piano, saxophone and vocals. Lounge Minute is a project which was created by Peter Lipa junior. He has dedicated more than 15 years to jazz music and he is currently working on the Slovak and Czech music scene, performing with his father, the renowned jazz singer Peter Lipa senior.
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday 24th April 2014 at 20.00 pm in the precinct of Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.
