On July 12, the Singapore Embassy in Berlin expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the German Ambassador to Singapore, Norbert Riedel, for his exceptional service and significant contributions to the strengthening of Germany-Singapore relations during his tenure.

Ambassador Riedel’s leadership saw remarkable milestones in bilateral relations, including the visits of both Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Dr Robert Habeck to Singapore in November 2022. These visits were part of the 17th Asia-Pacific Conference on German Business, culminating in the issuance of the Joint Declaration, “Partners for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” by Chancellor Scholz and then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Further solidifying the relationship, then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited Kiel in December 2022 for the launch of two Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) submarines with Chancellor Scholz. More recently, in April 2024, then-Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Chancellor Scholz agreed to upgrade Germany-Singapore relations to a Strategic Partnership (SP).

Ambassador Riedel has played a pivotal role in fostering the strong and enduring friendship between Germany and Singapore. His efforts have laid a robust foundation for continued collaboration and growth in bilateral ties. The Singapore Embassy in Berlin extends its best wishes to Ambassador Riedel as he embarks on the next chapter of his career, confident that the partnership between the two nations will continue to flourish in the years to come.
