The Embassy of the Republic of Senegal in the United Kingdom recently welcomed a delegation of students from the University of Westminster for an exchange on African diplomacy and regional cooperation. The visit, held in London, was organised with members of the African Affairs Think Tank and provided an opportunity for dialogue between diplomats and students interested in African policy and international relations.

The delegation was led by Carl-Tidiane Soumahoro and included fellow members of the society based at the university’s Regent Street campus. During the meeting, the students were received by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Wade, who welcomed the initiative and commended the group’s interest in engaging with contemporary African issues. The discussion created a platform for exchanging views on diplomacy, regional integration, and Africa’s evolving partnerships with international academic and policy communities.

Participants explored Senegal’s perspectives on key developments across the African continent, including the importance of regional cooperation and multilateral engagement in addressing economic and political challenges. The conversation also examined how academic institutions and research initiatives can contribute to informed debate on African affairs, encouraging collaboration between universities, think tanks, and diplomatic missions.

Such engagements highlight the growing role of educational diplomacy in strengthening international understanding and building networks between policymakers and future leaders. By connecting students with diplomatic representatives, embassies can foster deeper awareness of regional dynamics while encouraging research and dialogue on global governance, development, and international cooperation.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing interest in continued engagement between the Embassy of the Republic of Senegal and the African Affairs Think Tank at the University of Westminster. By supporting student-led initiatives and academic dialogue, the Embassy aims to promote informed discussions on African affairs while strengthening links between diplomatic institutions and the international academic community.
