Focus on fostering SME growth and sustainable economic development
July 08th, 2025H.E. Dr. Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, led a Qatari business delegation to Berlin to participate in a program organized by the German Mittelstand GCC Office, in cooperation with the Embassy of Qatar. The aim of the program was to enhance the bilateral economic relationship by promoting business in Qatar and exploring investment prospects in Germany.
The German Mittelstand GCC Office invited the Qatari delegation to participate in a program built around three key activities. The delegation first attended an evening reception with selected German CEOs, investors, and institutional partners, along with a series of meetings aimed at deepening bilateral trade and investment cooperation. One key discussion took place between Minister Al-Sayed and Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Following this event, the delegation participated in the Annual SME Day on the topic of developing public-private cooperation as a platform to foster SME growth and sustainable economic development. Minister Al-Sayed delivered a keynote address highlighting the joint commitment of Qatar and Germany to fostering economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in the SME sector, within Qatar National Vision 2030. He also noted Qatar’s active investment, citing the Qatar Investment Authority’s USD 14 billion investment in leading German companies such as Siemens and Volkswagen. He further acknowledged that 342 German companies have chosen Qatar for their regional operations. A subsequent panel discussion on Qatar-Germany investment relations highlighted opportunities and initiatives designed to promote innovation and foreign direct investment.
After inaugurating Qatar’s pavilion, organized by the German Association of SMEs (BVMW) and the Embassy of Qatar in Berlin, the delegation attended the Qatar-Germany Investment Forum, where more than 50 German companies introduced themselves to Qatari representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (Invest Qatar), the Qatar Investment Authority, the Qatar Free Zones Authority, the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, the Qatar Development Bank, and the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council.
The program, developed by the German Mittelstand GCC Office, provided a unique opportunity for Qatar and Germany to strengthen economic cooperation across key sectors for sustainable growth and SME development, including trade, investment, and innovation technologies.
