Pretoria is set to welcome over 10,000 visitors to South Africa’s original Oktoberfest, held at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria (DSP) from 11 to 13 September 2025. Now in its 47th edition, the festival has become both a major cultural highlight and a vital fundraiser for the school.

This year’s Oktoberfest promises three days of authentic German food, drink, and entertainment, offering an atmosphere of Gemütlichkeit that combines tradition with local flair. The festivities will kick off on Thursday, 11 September, with the VIP Opening Night, where guests can experience exclusive hospitality, traditional German cuisine, and live Oompah music, a highlight particularly popular with Pretoria’s corporate community. On Friday, 12 September, Prost Night invites attendees to join in a lively evening of singing, dancing, and celebration, featuring Germany’s Frankenräuber Oompah Band alongside DJs and local performers. Visitors can also enjoy the beer garden, fairground rides, and a diverse selection of food. Saturday, 13 September, is dedicated to families, offering children’s games, thrilling rides, a lantern walk, and a traditional Weißwurst breakfast accompanied by live music.

Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers can indulge in German specialties such as Eisbein, Kassler, Bretzel, and Lebkuchen, complemented by a wide selection of imported draught and craft beers. Merchandise stands, entertainment zones, and a dedicated Mokkastube with cakes and performances by young artists will further enrich the festival experience.

The German Embassy in Pretoria has been a notable supporter of the event. In 2024, the embassy actively participated, with Deputy Ambassador Brandt opening the celebrations, highlighting the strong ties between Germany and South Africa and reinforcing the festival’s role as a cultural bridge.

Following the tradition of Munich’s original Oktoberfest, the Pretoria festival is held in September to enjoy warmer weather and lively outdoor celebrations. The 2025 edition promises another memorable weekend, bringing Bavarian spirit to South Africa under African skies.
