President of Romania visits the Federal Republic of Germany regarding future cooperation
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invited Klaus Iohannis to several events and discussions
November 18th, 2024During November 15th to 18th, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis has been officially visiting the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin, followed by the invitation of Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This visit took place as a continuation of the past visit of the German President to Bucharest in 2023, and consolidates the Romanian-German dialogue, reflecting the excellent strategic relations between Romania and Germany.
The program of the visit included official discussions with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bundestag President Bärbel Bas. The President of Romania has also been invited to give a speech in the Federal Parliament on the occasion of the solemn ceremony dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of War and Dictatorship on November 17th.
Among the discussions that had taken place during these days, showcases the cooperation among Romania and Germany, the inter-human dimension of this relationship, the development of the political dialogue and the economic relations, deepening cooperation at EU level, including strengthening European security, as well as priority topics on the international agenda. Besides, President Iohannis has thanked Germany's significant contribution, as an Ally, to ensuring our country's security and strengthening NATO's Eastern Flank.
During the meeting, President Klaus Iohannis and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier recalled the long historical ties between the two countries and the important moment represented by the conclusion of the "Treaty between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany on Friendly Cooperation and Partnership in Europe" on 21 April 1992, which is the foundation of bilateral cooperation.
These relations are based on long-standing friendship, deep bilateral, European and multilateral cooperation, as well as long-standing historical and people-to-people ties. The large Romanian community in Germany and the German minority in Romania play an essential role in this relationship, acting as catalysts for dialogue and cooperation.
