News From Berlin - Calogero Russo has followed the transformation of East Berlin by way of photography since April 2014 and will showcase it in a magazine-like publication on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In conjunction with the celebrations of 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Russo will publish a fanzine of these photographs. A fanzine, essentially a magazine which is put together by fans of a cultural phenomenon - in this case the Berlin Wall, will demonstrate the various photographs Russo has collated of former East Berlin.

Russo is an Italian photojournalist and has photographed East Berlin 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and its reunification with West Germany. He has entitled his photo series “OST: Berlin”, which refers to the word “Ostalgie”; a word that touches on the nostalgia and historical and cultural presence there is in Germany. Berlin is a prime example of this culture, which oozes out of every corner from museums, restaurants and galleries to street art and supermarkets. To think that items of food and clothing that are sold today on a daily basis on the streets of former East Berlin were forbidden during the time of the Berlin Wall seems unfathomable.

Russo has tried to capture the development of East Berlin and East Germany as a whole as it has evolved from its former Soviet self to what we see today. He has taken all the photographs himself and they range from car parks, cafes, museums, parks and so forth.
