Filipino Pianist Raul Sunico plays to a full house at Mozarthaus Vienna
June 11th, 2024Renowned Filipino Pianist Dr. Raul Sunico enthralled the audience at the historic Mozarthaus Vienna in a concert arranged by The Philippine Embassy in Vienna and Philippine-Austrian Cultural and Educational Society (PACES), as part of the activities commemorating the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The concert featured beloved pieces, including "Bato sa Buhangin" by E. Cuenco/arr. R. Sunico and George Gershwin’s iconic “Rhapsody in Blue.” Among the highlights of the concert was Dr. Sunico’s performance of Constancio de Guzman’s “Bayan Ko.”
Ambassador Evangelina A. Bernas highlighted the connection between Art and STEM education by acknowledging Dr. Sunico’s degrees in Mathematics as well as PhD in Piano Performance, setting the stage for his extraordinary performance. The event also served as a venue for PACES President Dr. Jane Abaya to introduce their organization’s objectives. Dr. Abaya said PACES was committed to promoting intercultural exchange between Austria and the Philippines and its advocacy for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) higher education, introducing the “PACES STEM Scholarship” program, which provides full scholarships to deserving students in the Philippines pursuing degrees in scientific fields.
