February 09th, 2026The Embassy of Greece in London announces the public opening of its permanent exhibition, “George Seferis: The Man, the Poet, the Diplomat,” hosted at the Embassy Residence in London. The exhibition forms part of the Embassy’s ongoing cultural outreach and aims to highlight the life, work, and legacy of one of Greece’s most distinguished literary and diplomatic figures.
The exhibition will be open to visitors on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at the Embassy Residence, 51 Upper Brook Street, London, W1K 2BT. Admission is free of charge, with tickets available through the designated online link. Visitors are required to present a valid identity document upon arrival. Additional dates and opening hours will be announced via the Embassy’s official website and social media channels.
The exhibition was inaugurated on 24 October 2023, marking the 60th anniversary of the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to George Seferis. Its conceptual framework is structured around three defining dimensions of his life: the poet, the diplomat, and the human being. These qualities, both particular and universal, shaped his enduring contribution to Greek letters and public service.
Housed in the historic “Seferis Office,” where George Seferis lived and worked during his tenure as Ambassador of Greece to the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1962, the exhibition offers visitors an immersive experience. Through photographs, personal belongings, artworks, official and private correspondence, contemporary press material, and Greek and international editions of his works, the exhibition presents key aspects of his life, personality, and his lasting relationship with the United Kingdom.
The exhibition originated from the initiative of the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who facilitated the transfer of 32 objects from the Anna Lontos and Nikolaos Paisios Collection to the Embassy of Greece. These items formed the initial core of the exhibition, which was subsequently expanded. Further contributions were made by individuals and institutions, including the Diplomatic and Historical Archives Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Gennadius Library, the George Seferis Photographic Archive / MIET, the Louth Museum, and the artist Leda Kontogiannopoulou.
Through this permanent exhibition, the Embassy of Greece in London reaffirms its commitment to promoting Greek cultural heritage and fostering a deeper understanding of George Seferis’s multifaceted legacy among the public.
