Patricio Pradel is the New Ambassador of Chile in Berlin
The diplomat graduated from Law and Political Science and understands the political landscape in Germany and Europe well
June 13th, 2016On June 6th 2016, ambassador Pradel presented his credentials to the German President, Joachim Gauck, at the presidential palace of Schloss Bellevu, becoming the new Ambassador of Chile to Germany. Patricio Pradel Elgueta is a Chilean diplomat who studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile, and studied Law and Political Science at the National University of Panama.
He had already been stationed in Germany, where he served as First Secretary of the Embassy between 1995 and 2001, in addition to Austria (1985-1987), Switzerland (1988-1993) and Geneva (2002-2003). Other posts also took him to Panama, Cuba and Milan (as General Consul between 2005 and 2007).
Pradel, who is married and has four children, assumed the position of Ambassador of Chile to Trinidad and Tobago in 2009. In addition to this, he served as the representative of Chile to the Caribbean Community (Caricom). In 2012 he was appointed as ambassador of Chile in Uruguay. The following year, he was appointed as Permanent Representative of Chile to the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) and after serving one and a half years, left that position to assume new roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chile. In May 2016 he was appointed ambassador to Germany.
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Patricio Pradel was already in charge of the Desktop Spain and Germany of the Europe Direction, Head of United Nations Department and also Deputy Secretary of the Pro-Tempore of UNASUR Presidency.
Until his appointment as Ambassador in Berlin he was Chief of the Cabinet Secretary Edgardo Riveros at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. As Chief of Mission in Germany now he follows Mario Fernandez, who after two years in Berlin was assigned to Rome, as Ambassador to the Holy See.
