National Identities between Empires: Perspectives from Ukraine & Luxemburg
The Luxembourg Embassy in Berlin, together with the Ukrainian Institute in Germany, will host a reading and discussion evening with S. Andruchowytsch and Jeff Schinker at the House of Luxembourg on 8th of May

What was the fate of the countries and peoples who fought for their existence between the two occupying powers in the Second World War? How could the peoples between the great empires exist and survive?
On the occasion of the Liberation Day on May 8th and Europe Day on May 9th , Sofiia Andruchowytsch, a widely translated Ukrainian writer, and the renowned author and cultural journalist Jeff Schinker from Luxembourg will talk about the emergence, existence and survival of national identities between the European empires.
The two authors offer insights into the identity search of nations and peoples, which is usually told in history books with a modest number of pages. With excerpts from their works and personal experiences, the authors approach this complex topic. The evening will be moderated by Kateryna Rietz-Rakul, head of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany.
