Muzi Brings Zulu Energy to Berlin at Pop-Kultur Festival
South African Embassy supports cultural highlight with star performer
August 28th, 2025South African musician Muzi, also known as the Zulu Skywalker, is set to bring his signature energy to Berlin at the Pop-Kultur Festival on August 29, 2025, from 22:20 to 23:00 at Maschinenhaus. The event has been highlighted by the South African Embassy in Berlin, signaling the cultural significance of the performance as a showcase of contemporary South African music and a celebration of creative exchange between South Africa and Germany. The embassy’s promotion underlines the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening people-to-people connections through music.
Born and raised in Empangeni, north of Durban, Muzi has become one of South Africa’s most innovative and experimental artists. His music uniquely blends traditional Zulu genres such as Maskandi, Kwaito, and Isicathamiya with global influences, including Bubblegum pop and sounds from the 1980s and 1990s. Over the years, Muzi has released five albums, most recently “uMUZI” (2023), and collaborated with international artists such as Coldplay, Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, Stormzy, and Ghetts. His work has earned the admiration of influential tastemakers like Zane Lowe, and his sound is recognized for being both energetic and globally resonant.
Muzi’s performance in Berlin is more than a concert—it is an immersive cultural experience that combines his South African roots with contemporary global sounds. The show promises interactive energy, rhythmic layers, and a fusion of traditional and modern musical styles, offering the Berlin audience a unique opportunity to experience the depth and richness of South Africa’s music scene. For Berliners familiar with Muzi’s journey, this marks the return of an artist who previously participated in the Musicboard Berlin fellowship in 2016, now ready to take the stage with full force.
Through the embassy’s support and active promotion on official channels, the performance also highlights the broader role of cultural partnerships in connecting countries and communities. The event underscores the potential of music as a bridge between cultures, opening spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and mutual appreciation. This Pop-Kultur appearance is set to be one of the festival’s highlights in 2025, promising both an unforgettable live experience and a meaningful contribution to cultural exchange between South Africa and Germany. Tickets are available via the Pop-Kultur Festival website.
