Minister of State Tobias Lindner visits Jordan and Iraq

Minister of State Lindner stresses the importance of Jordan’s and Iraq’s role in the Region

From 21st to 24th January, Minister of State Tobias Lindner visited Jordan and Iraq for political talks, following up on the Foreign Minister’s talks at the recent Syria conference in Riyadh on 12 January.

In Jordan, Minister of State Lindner met representatives of the Jordanian Government to discuss the aftermath of the Syrian civil conflict and the situation in the Middle East region. On 22nd January, Minister of State Lindner highlighted the close bilateral relations between Germany and Jordan, stressing the country’s “constructive role focused on solutions in the international community.”

Regarding Iraq, Minister Lindner stressed the concrete involvement of Germany during the past years, stating:

“I would like to bring myself up to speed on the progress made with regard to the return of internally displaced persons to their homes, the investigation of IS crimes and the situation of minorities, in particular the Yazidi community.”

During his visit, Minister Lindner met President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani. The two parties discussed various issues, including the upcoming German parliamentary elections and the latest developments in the Middle East. 

The two parties emphasized the critical importance of maintaining regional peace and stability, as well as harmony among all stakeholders in order to avoid additional confrontations.
