On July 18th, a significant meeting took place at the Tunisian Embassy with Mr. Mohamed Khesskaya, the newly appointed Director for Cooperation with North Africa and the Middle East at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He was accompanied by his colleague, Mr. Fahd Ashour.

The discussions centred on the status of Tunisian students who benefit from scholarships provided by the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in partnership with DAAD. Mr. Khesskaya emphasized that Tunisia holds a leading position in the Arab and African regions regarding cooperation in higher education and scientific research with Germany.

Tunisia has the distinction of being the first country in the world to sign a cooperation agreement with DAAD, dating back to 1981, which highlights the Tunisian state's long-standing commitment to the education sector. The presence of a regional DAAD office in Tunisia, which serves the North African countries, underscores this cooperation. This office is one of 18 regional offices that DAAD operates worldwide.

It is noteworthy that the number of Tunisian students enrolled in German universities has been steadily increasing in recent years, now reaching 7,000 students. Among them, several are recipients of scholarships from the Tunisian government, reflecting the robust educational ties between the two countries.
