Career
In 1990 joined the Mid-Med Bank Ltd, today HSBC Bank Malta plc where he worked as a Manager till April 2014.
From April till 9th December 2014 he worked with the Prime Minister as the Government Spokesman and Whip.
On the 9th December 2014 was appointed Minister for Home Affairs and National Security.
On the 9th June 2017 was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion.

Political career:
Contested the local elections in 1994 and was subsequently elected where he served as councillor till 1996
Contested the 1996 General Elections and elected Member of Parliament
Appointed Assistant Whip and Cashier of the parliamentary group
Contested the 1998 General Elections and elected Member of Parliament 
Appointed Spokesman for Youth and Sport, Assistant Whip and Secretary of the Labour Party Parliamentary Group
Contested the 2003 General Elections and elected Member of Parliament
In 2003 was unanimously appointed Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives
Appointed Main Spokesman for Education Youth, Sports and Culture
In 2008 was unanimously appointed Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives
Appointed Main Spokesman for Industry and Foreign Investment and subsequently for Social Policy
Re-elected in 2013 and appointed Whip of the Government Parliamentary Group and Member on the Standing Committee on House Business
In April 2014 after a cabinet reshuffle he was also appointed as Government Spokesman
In December 2014 he was appointed Minister for Home Affairs and National Security
In June 2017 he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion

Since September 2013 he was elected as Regional Representative on the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Head of Delegation of the Inter Parliamentary Union.
Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
