On September 4th, Maeve Collins, Ireland’s newly appointed Ambassador to Germany, officially presented her credentials to Germany's Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Ambassador Collins is the first woman to hold this position in the 95-year history of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Germany. Ireland proudly highlights that women now lead 55% of its diplomatic missions worldwide.

Prior to this role, Ambassador Collins served as Director General of the EU Division at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin and represented Ireland as Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union. She has also held positions as Ireland’s Ambassador to Finland and Vietnam, and served as Deputy Head of Delegation at the European Union's mission in Tokyo. The formal ceremony took place at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of President Steinmeier in Berlin, where Ambassador Collins presented her letters of credence.

These letters, issued by the Irish Head of State, serve two purposes: the first recalls the outgoing Ambassador, while the second introduces Ambassador Collins as Ireland’s highest-ranking representative to Germany, authorized to speak on behalf of the Irish government.

With the completion of this accreditation ceremony, Ambassador Collins is now formally recognized as Ireland’s official representative to Germany, and we look forward to strengthening the Irish-German partnership in the years ahead.
