Madalena–Berlin Plays ‘NO means NO’

Legislative Theatre in Berlin at Lateinamerika Forum and Kuringa

NO means NO’ is a legislative-theatre project to expand the public discussion around the current European debate of ‘Women’s’ NO under the guidance of the Artistic Director Barbara Santos.

Madalena-Berlin is a female Theatre of the Oppressed group and collective of activists from the Non- Governmental Organization KURINGA (Berlin), which stimulates aesthetic debates about the oppressions faced by women. The group is part of the Ma(g)dalena International Network composed by feminist theatres groups from Latin-America that promote discussion and concrete actions for women ‘rights.  

The event will be held on Thursday, October 6th from 19.00 at the Lateinamerika- Forum (Bismarckstraße 101, 10625 BERLIN) and on Friday, October 7th from 20.00 at the Kuringa (Grüntaler Str. 35, 13359 BERLIN).

The Magdalena Project was founded in 2011 is recognized as a dynamic cross-cultural network of women’s theatre and performance, facilitating critical discussion, support and training. It is a nexus for diverse performance groups and individuals whose common interest lies in a commitment to ensuring the visibility of women’s artistic endeavour.

The Madalena-Berlin will present their play ‘No means No’ in the Legislative Theatre Process, its distinctive trade is the active participation of the audience, in order to propose alternatives for the transformation of reality on the stage. The play aims to explore the social construction of the idea of gender and this construction’s concrete consequence.

With this event the Latin-American community aims to explain us how we could build a community where women are able to feel safe and respected.
