H.E. Mr. Rytis Paulauskas is a heavyweight career diplomat and one of the most seasoned multilateral strategists within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. He assumed his duties in Geneva bringing an extraordinary institutional memory, having previously served as the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations in New York, where he fiercely defended national sovereignty and international legal frameworks during global security crises.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ambassador Paulauskas has mastered nearly every major multilateral arena. He has served as Lithuania's Permanent Representative to the UN, OSCE, and other international organizations in Vienna, and held the crucial position of Director of the Communications and Public Information Department, as well as Director of the Security Policy Department in Vilnius. Holding a deep legal background, his strategic acumen in international law, human rights advocacy, and regional security architectures makes him a highly authoritative and formidable voice in Geneva's diplomatic corps.

History

Lithuania’s diplomatic posture in International Geneva is defined by a proactive, principled defense of democratic values, international accountability, and the safeguarding of open, rules-based multilateralism against unilateral aggression.

The Permanent Mission in Geneva operates as Lithuania's frontline interface with the UN Human Rights Council, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Historically and contextually, the mission is recognized for its uncompromising stance on holding human rights violators accountable, protecting regional security, and driving digital resilience. Under Ambassador Paulauskas's leadership, the mission acts as a vital regional anchor—continuously exposing state-sponsored cyber threats, fighting economic coercion on the global market, and leading international coalitions to defend territorial integrity and civil liberties across Eastern Europe and beyond.
