On Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m., acclaimed Spanish author Sara Mesa will present her novel La familia (Die Familie), a hypnotic and subtle exploration of emotional bonds, silence, fear, and shame within the family unit. The following evening, Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m., cultural journalists Nicole Biarnés Kiefer and Julia Macher will lead Degusta Spanien, a talk and tasting session that examines—and challenges—widespread myths about Spanish culture.

On Friday, May 23 at 4:00 p.m., dancer and performer Ale Alday will offer Kamishibai ambulante, a traveling paper-theatre storytelling session for children aged 4 to 8. Featuring musical accompaniment, the two stories—The Journey to the Top and The Southern Cross—celebrate the worldview of Indigenous cultures and their connection to nature.

The celebrated Peruvian writer Gabriela Wiener will take center stage in two events. On Monday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m., she will present her book Huaco retrato (Unentdeckt), which intertwines her personal and family history with broader themes of colonial violence and cultural reappropriation in Latin America. The next day, on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m., Wiener will take on the role of Librarian for a Day, selecting titles from the institute’s holdings that have shaped her literary voice and worldview.

All events will be held in the auditorium or the Mario Vargas Llosa Library at the Instituto Cervantes in Berlin. Advance registration is required.
