Last Days of goEast - Focus Slovakia

News from Berlin- Today is the last day dedicated to Slovak cinematography within the goEast Filmfestival taking place in Wiesbaden, Germany. This year, Slovak production participates in two sections. The first one, named “Focus Slovakia”, approaches production of young Slovak directors that are slowly working their way up in the European independent creation context. The second section, “Beyond Belongings”,focuses on the topics of socialism and the footprint that it has left in eastern countries´ societies.
Today´s program comprises a panel discussion titled “Slovak Cinema Now”, which is dedicated to tendencies and political and societal influences that the film industry in Slovakia is confronted with. Discussions are conducted by German film critic Martin Blaney with a participation of a group of Slovak speakers formed by Alexandra Strelková, director of National Cinematographic Centre of Slovakia, Zuzana Liová, director, Peter Badač, producer and Eva Križková, film critic. In the evening, two movies representing the two sections are screened: The house and Velvet Terrorists, respectively.
The section Focus Slovakia is co-organized by the Slovak Film Institute with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia. This program forms part of a larger project devoted to Slovak culture called Days of Slovak Culture held by the Honorary Consul of Slovakia Mr. Imrich Donath, under the auspices of UNESCO and in collaboration with the Slovak Embassy and Slovak Cultural Institute in Berlin.
