This May, the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra has has a distinctly Spanish character, according to director Juanjo Mena, head of the BBC Philharmonic. Of primary importance is the participation of the soprano singer Raquel Lojendio. Juanjo Mena’s curriculum vitae is indeed impressive, from his origins in Euskadi as director of the Youth Orchestra of Euskal Herria, to conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Bilbao, Galicia and US.

The ability to assume leadership of the Berlin Philharmonic is a highly prestigious recognition of quality and talent. In the German capital, he presented a program that, along with the Tricorne by “Maestro” Falla, will play the Iberia suite by Claude Debussy and the Harp and Orchestra Concert by Alberto Ginastera.

Raquel Lojendio, studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cruz (Tenerife). The soprano has been honoured with numerous awards, including the First Prize “Young Musicians Festival of Barcelona” in 1999, and he was also a finalist in the international competition “Iris Adami Corradetti” in Padua in 2007.

The Berlin Philharmonic is consistently ranked as one of the best orchestras in the world. In 2006, ten European media outlets voted the Berlin Philharmonic number three on a list of the “top ten European orchestras”, after the Vienna Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The importance of this cooperation between Spain and Germany is linked to the possibility of linking together arts, music, culture, and mutual exchange between two important countries in Europe.
