The Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin (Istituto Italiano di Cultura), acting in close institutional coordination with the EUNIC Berlin network, successfully launched the eighth edition of 'BABYLON EUROPA 2026: The European Festival.

Hosted at the ufaFabrik open-air grounds, the major public diplomacy initiative positioned Europe as a shared co-creation space, using live musical showcase and interdisciplinary performance to foster transatlantic and intra-European solidarity.

The strategic cultural project brought together elite multidisciplinary artists from across the continent for an intensive five-day creative residency under the artistic direction of acclaimed Berlin composer Christopher Blenkinsop. Representing the Italian diplomatic delegation, award-winning pianist and film score composer Giulia Tagliavia joined international creators to fuse diverse musical heritage, linguistics, and acoustic profiles into a single collaborative live show

Central to the project's strategic framework was removing cultural diplomacy from traditional closed rooms and integrating it directly into Berlin's city-wide Fête de la Musique celebrations. Prior to the grand musical showcase, the organizing network hosted a high-level discussion forum involving European cultural attachés and public officials, analyzing how shared artistic spaces function as conduits for democracy and regional identity.

The high-visibility initiative transformed the venue into a vibrant 'European Village' that blended street food, spontaneous acoustic sessions, and open dialogue, drawing thousands of local citizens and international emissaries. By concluding the night with a massive collaborative performance on the summer stage, the Italian Cultural Institute and its diplomatic partners successfully demonstrated how contemporary music remains an essential tool for cross-border international relations.
