First edition of the program “Doing Cinema”: a way to promote Italian culture all over the world

Culture plays a decisive role in the bilateral agreements and cooperation between countries; which is why the Italian Embassy has decided to strengthen the promotion of Italian culture through the week of May 21st- 27th of the so-called program “Fare Cinema” (“Doing Cinema").

The Italian cinema tradition has always spoken for itself throughout history. Keeping this tradition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has recently launched the initiative of promoting Italian culture - helped by Embassies and Italian Institutes of Culture- dedicate to media, namely cinema.

This first edition will be dedicated to the director, actor, and playwright Pietro Germi (1914-1974) and his repertory. Having his heyday between the 40s and the 70s, he has become one of most important representatives of the Italian comedy.

Thanks to the cooperation with Arsenal, in the Institut für Film und Videokunst, eleven of his masterpieces are going to be broadcasted in Berlin during the aforementioned week. The launching day will be introduced by the director, critic and journalist Mario Sesti, while the following day a conference will be held focused on Pietro Germi’s movies.

The comprehensive program will include movies coming from different times, covering an important part of the Italian history. Each day, starting from May 18th to 30th, a movie will be shown based on the following schedule:
