August 12th, 2014
News from Berlin – Each year in August, Berlin holds the International Stadium Festivals (ISTAF) at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. ISAF is the biggest one-day athletic event with over 200 top-sportsman, amongst others are also Olympic medallist winners, representing 16 different track and field disciplines.
The history of the ISTAF Berlin festival can be traced back to 1937 when three Berlin sport associations, the Berlin Sport-Club (BSC), Deutsche Sport-Club (DSC) and the Sport-Club Charlottenburg (SCC) have agreed to hold International-sporting events for the purpose to avoid clashing the meeting dates.
From the 1st of August 1937 the ISTAF sporting event has taken place over 60 times, with more than 60,000 spectators joining the events every year at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Today ISTAF has become one of the world’s most prominent sport meetings. As from 1998 to 2002 ISTAF was also the final venue hosting the International Association of Athletics Federation Golden League (IAAF GL).
Further in 2011 ISTAF has celebrated its 90th Birthday since its establishment in 1937 with over 10 world champions and four world record holders showing their skills to the people of Berlin. This year the event will take place on the 31st of August 2014 with many world athletes such as Usain Bolt participating in the event. Enjoy a festival of sports and excitement.
