The Ambassador
Amb. Noel White
H.E. Mr. Noel White is a highly respected, senior career diplomat within Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. He assumed his role as the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations Office at Geneva bringing a wealth of experience in multilateral diplomacy, international human rights law, and European affairs.
Throughout his distinguished career, Ambassador White has held several pivotal roles, including serving as Ireland's Ambassador to Italy, where he was also accredited to Libya and San Marino, and as the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Within the central ministry in Dublin, he served as the Director of the Human Rights Unit, shaping Ireland's global positions on civil society protection and humanitarian aid. His diplomatic skill set is heavily centered on consensus-building and international law, making him a prominent voice in Geneva's diplomatic circles.
History
Ireland’s presence in International Geneva is a direct reflection of its traditional foreign policy principles: a fierce commitment to multilateralism, global humanitarian action, human rights, and disarmament. The Permanent Mission serves as Ireland’s primary interface with the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Conference on Disarmament. Historically, Irish diplomacy in Geneva has been internationally recognized for its leadership in advocating for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and addressing global food insecurity. Today, the mission remains deeply involved in protecting civic space worldwide, advancing gender equality, defending international humanitarian law in conflict zones, and shaping progressive global health and migration policies.
