On September 13 the Iraqi Ambassador to Germany, Luqman Al-Fili, welcomed a delegation of key cultural and academic figures, marking a significant milestone in the cooperation between Iraq and Germany. The meeting, held at the Iraqi Embassy, included notable attendees such as Professor Margaret van Ess, head of the Iraqi file at the German Archaeological Institute, Dr. Leith Majid Hussein, a professor of Ancient Oriental Studies, and representatives from the University of Baghdad. The main topic of discussion was the establishment of the Iraq-German Archaeological Center in Baghdad, a crucial step in fostering academic and cultural collaboration between the two nations.

Ambassador Al-Fili expressed his delight at the agreement, underscoring the embassy's commitment to supporting the project and ensuring its success. Professor van Ess echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive trajectory of Iraq-German cooperation and announcing the continuation of the German archaeological mission’s excavation efforts, set to begin in November. The Iraqi delegation, in turn, emphasized the government's intent to expand cultural cooperation both bilaterally and internationally, marking the upcoming center's inauguration as a significant development in Iraq's cultural and academic landscape.
