Indian Embassy in Berlin Hosts Webinar on National Science Day and Celebrates 50 Years of Indo-German S&T Cooperation

“Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat” Sheds Light on India’s S&T Advancements

On the occasion of India’s National Science Day and the 50th anniversary of Indo-German Science and Technology (S&T) Cooperation, the Embassy of India in Berlin organized a special webinar titled “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat.” The webinar was led by Dr Shekhar Mande, the former Secretary of DSIR and DG of CSIR from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, who also serves as the National President of Vijnana Bharati.

Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni opened the webinar, addressing over 200 participants from India and Germany. He spoke about the critical role of S&T cooperation within the strategic Indo-German partnership and highlighted India’s significant achievements in scientific research and technological innovation.

The event featured a range of distinguished speakers and panelists, including Prof. Karlheinz Langanke, former Joint Director of FAIR and GSI, honorary member of the European Physical Society (EPS), member of Academia Europaea, as well as Dr Frank Lehner and Dr Hans-Christian Wille from Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Hamburg. 

Participants included policymakers, representatives of international organizations, academics, and key figures from R&D institutions, reflecting the deep and multifaceted engagement between the two countries in science and technology.

Dr. Praveen K. Somasundaram, Head of International Cooperation at DST, GOI, provided the concluding remarks, encapsulating the discussions and future directions proposed during the webinar.

This virtual event commemorated past successes on February 29, 2024. It charted a course for future collaboration, emphasizing indigenous innovation and sustainable development as the bedrock of a progressive India, or “Viksit Bharat.” 

By fostering such dialogue, India and Germany continue reinforcing their scientific alliance, poised to meet the present challenges while innovating for the future.
