Indian Embassy Hosts a Musical Reading in July

News From Berlin - Continuing hosting cultural events, this month in July the Indian Embassy shall be hosting a musical reading of Idries Shah’s book - Wisdom of the Idiots blended with Classical Sitar Music by Al Gromer Khan on July 3rd, 2014 at 18:00.

Idries Shah was born in Shimla and grew up in England. He is the author of thirty books that have been translated into twelve languages and achieved 15 million printed copies. He contributed significantly to the popularity of Islamic thoughts, especially Sufism. In 'Wisdom of the Idiots' the Sufis are called fools because their knowledge is often beyond ordinary intelligence or academic education. The author of over 30 books and monographs has made important contributions to create a better understanding of the Sufi wisdom.

Al Gromer Khan in his early years lived in London, Tangier and India. The musician visited a London art school, followed by years of study and practice of Indian music with the renowned sitar maestros Imrat Khan and Rais Khan. In 1975, he was inducted into the Vilayat Khani Gharana, the famous Indian sitar music store of players. He returned in the late 1970s to Germany, where he was involved in film and sound recordings for radio and television projects and is considered as an initiator and a key figure of Ambient, New Age and World Music genres.
