The Ambassador of the U.S. to Germany Amy Gutmann delivered her welcome remarks at the embassy’s official Fourth of July party at the American Academy in Berlin-Wannsee on June 27, 2024. She took the stage immediately after the German Luftwaffe and the U.S. Air Force conducted a joint flyover over the Wannsee. Expressing her admiration for the spectacle, she emphasized the strength of the U.S.-German partnership.

She acknowledged the diverse group of guests from various sectors, celebrating their collective efforts in strengthening U.S.-German relations. She recognized the American Academy on the Wannsee as a key partner and thanked Daniel Benjamin and his team. Additionally, she expressed gratitude to the companies that sponsored the event and the Yacht Club's leadership.

Reflecting on her tenure, she mentioned this would be her last Independence Day celebration as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany. She shared her personal connection to Germany through her father, Kurt Gutmann, a German-Jewish refugee, and his influence on her commitment to combating antisemitism and all forms of hatred.

She acknowledged the achievements of the U.S. and Germany, particularly their support for Ukraine against Russian aggression, demonstrating a unified purpose and action. She praised Germany for surpassing its NATO commitment and standing with the U.S. in Middle East affairs. Highlighting progress since 2022, she spoke about enhanced innovation, resilience, and inclusiveness in both economies, creating better opportunities for youth, women, and marginalized groups. She cherished the extensive people-to-people diplomacy that had reached millions across Germany.

She expressed deep gratitude to her team at the Embassy and Consulates, praising their talent and dedication.

Concluding her speech, she introduced Alan Meltzer as the successor to Clark Price and assured that the mission would remain in capable hands. The Ambassador closed by expressing her heartfelt thanks to all attendees, reflecting on her father's pride in their shared achievements and her honor in representing the American people in Germany.
