The performances about cultures and different continent´s traditions begun already before Christmas. On Friday 22nd of January at 19.00 begins the exposition in Africa Haus. Every weekend a different continent is explored and the third weekend in January belongs to Africa. The “Markt der Kontinente” takes place with the Ethnologischen Museum Dahlem’s support and the State Museum offers musical support on its premises. This exhibition is also designed for children, where families can find interactive activities. The museums try to excite people´s interest about different cultures.

The Humboldt University, musicological department, is also a participant in this exhibition. In  the winter semester 2015/2016 the course, where people are dealing with the question of the current position of Africa in the market and also what kind of role African music plays in the world. The professor Dr. Nepomuk Riva, who is leading this seminar, is paying attention to  the historical background of colonial heritage as well as to the market. Part of the event is a discussion about the central importance music plays in Africa's representation and which stereotypes are reproduced. The aim of the event is to find a communication between institutions and to show, what role culture plays in daily life. 

The Afrika-Haus in Berlin Moabit has been open since 1993 and aims to be an intercultural meeting point and educative institution. The aim of Afrika-Haus is to raise awareness about Africa, about its history and especially about the relationship between Africa and Germany. The Afrika-Haus is a place for lectures, discussions, film screenings and exhibitions, where people have a chance to gain knowledge about the history, politics, and literature from Africa. Through their activities they want to have an impact on the political, economic and everyday life-related situations of individual African countries and the goal of discussion is to push people to work together for shaping new perspectives.
