The coming year has seen the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an occasion which has been celebrated not only in Britain but also at the British Embassy in Berlin on the June 14th. To mark this special occasion and to pay tribute to the excellent co-operation between the UK and Germany, the British Embassy in Berlin has brought together more than 300 distinguished guests from industry, politics, culture and the media and the gala has taken place in a traditional British atmosphere.

The menu for the event was typically British: Stilton-puffs with green tomato chutney, cottage cheese with herbs on sea salt chips, Coronation Chicken, Sage & onion scones with pulled chicken and Fish and Chips. For desert there were strawberries and whipped cream, scones and even a digestive biscuits cake, made to a family recipe provided by the ambassador's wife. Naturally there was a Pimms and a glass of beautiful English Nyetimber Sparkling Wine from West-Sussex, although German beers and cloudy apple juice also sneaked onto the menu.

The gala featured live music, British humor and artistry. “It is one of the Queen reasonable, sophisticated birthday party, with a touch of gin and tonic!”, affirmed the Manchester-born comic Jack Woodhead invited to the celebration. The Embassy has invited more than 1,000 guests to a garden party at the residence in Grunewald. The dress code was, of course,"Black Tie".

Last year, the Royal Couple attended the event, having had the chance to visit Germany after 11 years. Discussion was focused on the major issue related to British-German relations in the previous year.
