Humboldt University is Offering Free Lectures for Refugees over the Winter Semester
Refugees can Choose which Lectures to Attend for Free at Humboldt University During the Winter SemesterDecember 21st, 2015
Humboldt University is offering to refugee students the opportunity to listen to lectures and seminars throughout the winter semester like guest students. ¨To advise refugees on all questions arising with regards to the university, the courses, registration and the guest student status, an additional consultation and information time has been arranged. The consultation is open for all refugees interested in the Humboldt University, no advance appointments are required. “Counseling is provided in German, English, Arabic and Farsi” reported Humboldt.
Humboldt University in Berlin, is the oldest and second largest university, it was established on 16th of August 1810 on the initiative of the liberal Prussian school reformer and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt. Its name was changed a couple of times throughout the years. It was named Berliner Universität, Fredrich-Wilhelm Universität and in 1949 it got the name as we know it today Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. The University is divided into eleven faculties. In Addition to the strong anchoring of traditional subjects, such as science, law, philosophy, history, theology and medicine, Humboldt University developed to encompass numerous new scientific disciplines. After the unification of East and West Germany, the university was radically restructured and all professors had to reapply for their positions. Humboldt University is a state university with a large number of students (approximately 4700 students).
The Student Service Center (SSC) is open from 13th of October till 15th of December every Tuesday between 13:00 and 15:00 to answer any questions that refugees may have. If they want to register as a guest student, looking for a suitable lectures, interested in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, doing a PhD in English or different courses for refugees etc.
The Humboldt is already famous in the world of students many who are coming abroad to study. Being part of helping the refugees with the studies that they offer is just one more positive aspect of the university.
