The Embassy of Canada in Berlin invites you to explore the universe of Canadian comics with a speaking panel, reception, and book signing. Eight of Canada’s renowned comic book creators will introduce themselves to the Berlin public on Monday, June 4th.

Many internationally successful comics of the past few years have been created by Canadian artists and authors, even if foreign readers are not always aware of this. The Canadian comic scene is characterized by a special diversity, which takes influences from North American mainstream culture, current developments in the independent comic book sector, and European and Asian trends, combined with original Canadian content and forms of expression.
At a public event hosted by the Embassy of Canada, eight representatives of Canada’s renowned comic book creators will introduce themselves to the Berlin public on Monday, June 4th.

Guests will be invited to a speaking panel followed by a reception and signing session with the following creators: Jeff Lemire ("Essex County", "Black Hammer"), Meags Fitzgerald ("Photobooth", "Long Red Hair"), Ray Fawkes ("Justice League", "The Spectral Engine "), Katie and Steven Shanahan ("Silly Kingdom"), and three representatives of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (Christopher Butcher, Andrew Woodrow-Butcher and Miles Baker). Moderation to be conducted by Lars von Törne.

The panelists will talk about the uniqueness of the Canadian comic scene and give insights into their work. There are numerous publications by the guests and other Canadian comic creators to discover, and attendees will be able to buy these at the event’s book table.

Admission opens at 5.30pm, with the panel beginning at 6.00pm, and a reception and book signing shortly after at 7.00pm.

While admission is free, please carry a valid ID card with you and allow sufficient time for the security check at the entrance. Registration is required.

Location: The Embassy of Canada, Leipziger Platz 17 - 10117 Berlin
