To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Airlift and showcase this historic foundation of the transatlantic relationship, the U.S. Embassy organized an event on the afternoon of May 13 members of the military, representatives of the British and French Embassies, historical institutions and foundations as well as museums, and eye-witnesses of the Airlift.

The event included a symbolic handover of two WWII era planes to the Deutsches Technikmuseum that have been held on loan from the USAF Museum in Akron, Ohio, at the Technikmuseum and at Tempelhof Airport. The Embassy played a crucial role in facilitating the request by the Technikmuseum to officially turn the planes over into the museum’s possession. In September 2023, the turnover was finally approved and the conveyance document signed.
