‘Gloria Artis’ Medal Awarded to Prof. Peter Raue in Berlin

News from Berlin - Last week the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, presented Professor Peter Raue with the ‘Gloria Artis’ Silver Medal in recognition of his contribution to the return of cultural objects lost during the Second World War in Poland. The presentation took place at the Polish Embassy in Berlin.
Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski met with Plenipotentiary of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, Monika Grütters in Berlin. The main topic of conversation was the removal of effects of World War II in the field of cultural goods. In the evening Minister Zdrojewski was the guest of a gala concert at the Berlin Philharmonic, held on the 10th anniversary of Polish accession to the EU. The Minister awarded a Silver Medal for ‘Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis’ to Prof. Peter Raue.
Employed by the Ministry of Culture in 2011, law professor Peter Raue has allowed the recovery of the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, including the image of Alexander Gierymski’s ‘Jewess with Oranges’ which is recognized as one of the most valuable Polish war losses. In 2012 he contributed with his commitment to the recovery of another work: ‘A Negress’ by Anna Bilińska-Bohdanowiczowa, which represents the loss of the war. He also contributed to the recovery of another work: ‘Stairs Palace Francesco Guardi’, which was officially returned to Poland on March 31st of this year.
