GERMAN FOREIGN OFFICE AND AFRICAN DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS STRENGTHEN TIES THROUGH ECONOMIC DIALOGUE IN BERLIN
Berlin hosts high-level talks on sustainable German-African economic cooperation
April 16th, 2025In Berlin, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office and several African embassies are advancing diplomatic and economic relations through focused dialogue on sustainable cooperation and investment.
On November 20, 2024, Berlin hosted a key event in the evolving partnership between Germany and the African continent: the G20 Compact with Africa summit, organized by the German Federal Chancellery with the support of the Federal Foreign Office and the active participation of multiple African embassies based in Berlin. The event brought together African heads of state, German government officials, and representatives from international organizations to discuss long-term strategies for sustainable investment and economic growth.
This high-level meeting, part of Germany’s broader Africa policy framework, highlighted Berlin’s role as a hub for diplomatic engagement and international cooperation. Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the importance of fair and future-oriented economic relations between Germany and African countries, underscoring Germany’s intention to be not just a trade partner, but a long-term ally in Africa’s sustainable development.
In parallel to the G20 event, the Africa Dialogue Series, held at various venues in Berlin throughout 2024, has deepened the conversation on German-African cooperation. Supported by the Federal Foreign Office and organized with the collaboration of African embassies in Germany, the dialogue series has focused on themes such as infrastructure, green energy, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation. These initiatives reflect a diplomatic strategy that combines economic engagement with mutual respect and cultural understanding.
The outcomes of these discussions will feed directly into the German-African Business Summit, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya in December 2024. The Berlin-based preparatory meetings were crucial in aligning diplomatic priorities and setting a common agenda. African ambassadors in Berlin, including those from Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, played active roles in the coordination of this international effort, reinforcing the embassy’s role as a vital link between policy and partnership.
Berlin’s active hosting of these diplomatic and economic platforms reaffirms Germany’s growing commitment to a partnership with Africa based on shared interests, respect, and long-term strategic cooperation. As both sides work toward building a more balanced global economy, the role of embassies and cultural diplomacy in Berlin continues to grow in importance.
