Mamadou Tangara
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr. Tangara has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2018.
Mr. Tangara served as Permanent Representative between 2013 and 2016. Prior to that, he was Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, from 2012 to 2013. Mr. Tangara has held several other ministerial-level positions, including Minister for Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters in 2012 and Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad from 2010 to 2012.
Among other roles, he served as Coordinator of the National Authorising Office Support Unit for European Union-funded programmes and projects in the Gambia, from 2008 to 2010. He has been President/Chairman of the University of The Gambia’s Governing Council since 2009 to date.
Mr. Tangara holds doctoral and master’s degrees from the Université de Limoges in France, and a Master of Arts in Demography from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.
Born on 4 June 1965, he is married and has five children.
