H.E. Mrs. Rita Barreau Kambangoye is an accomplished diplomat and public administrator representing the Gabonese Republic on the international stage. History
Since achieving independence in 1960 and joining the United Nations, Gabon has established a robust diplomatic presence in Geneva. The Permanent Mission serves as Gabon's vital diplomatic link to the UN's European headquarters, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Historically, Gabon's multilateral diplomacy in Geneva has been heavily centered on environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Home to a significant portion of the Congo Basin rainforest—often referred to as the "second lungs of the Earth"—Gabon utilizes its Geneva mission to actively spearhead global discussions on biodiversity, green economies, and environmental human rights. Additionally, the mission remains highly active in World Health Assembly negotiations to improve public health infrastructure across Sub-Saharan Africa and works closely with the UN Human Rights Council to promote social progress and governance across the continent.
